Hello world!

Welcome to Tapegerm.org.
For those who don’t know, Tapegerm began in 1999 as a collective experiment: musicians trading loops, samples, and fragments of sound, reshaping them into new recordings. Over the next twenty years, thousands of tracks emerged — all connected by the idea that sound is never finished, only waiting to regerminate.
This site is where we’ll gather that history — the collaborations, the archives, the stories — and carry it forward. Tapegerm.org is both a documentation project and an invitation: a place to keep the music alive by exploring, reworking, and evolving archival sounds into new forms.
In the coming weeks you’ll see archival recordings, essays, and seeds of new projects begin to appear here. If you were part of Tapegerm in the early years, we’d love to hear from you. If you’re new, you’re just as welcome. The spirit of Tapegerm has always been open, exploratory, and collaborative.
Thanks for stopping by. Let’s see what grows.

Tapegerm was formed in 1999 out of a project on GAJOOB with artists making new music from loops extracted from homemade cassette albums in our archive. The .ORG site, directed by original founder Briyan Frederick Baker, launched in the fall of 2025. It documents and provides new acceess to this activity while encouraging new collaborators to regerminate the continuing evolution with new and vintage sounds and further musical exploration.
